Frequently Asked Questions

Do you see clients virtually or in person?

Child In Mind offers both virtual and in-person appointments. Our virtual platform is in compliance with all privacy legislation to ensure your complete privacy and confidentiality.

How do I book an appointment?

All of our appointments are booked through our online booking system. You are invited to look through our clinician profiles, and book directly with a clinician that is most well suited for your child and family’s needs. The first step is to book a Parent-Only Intake Appointment, during which your clinician will gain a comprehensive understanding of the history and current functioning. Following your intake, you are invited to book a series of follow-up appointments based on the plan for treatment developed with your clinician.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

A physician referral is not required for you to access our services. However, many extended health insurance providers do require a physician for them to cover the service.

Will my sessions be covered by my extended health benefits?

Most extended health plans provide coverage for psychological services. The number of sessions and percentage of the fee that is covered will vary depending on your plan. Some plans are limited in the type of service provider they will approve. The Child In Mind team includes Psychologists, Registered Psychotherapists, Registered Social Workers, and non-licensed professionals. Please confirm with your plan provider to determine your coverage.

What are the fees?

  • Psychologist - $250/hr

  • Psychotherapist & Social Worker - $200/hr

  • Couples & Family Therapy - $210/hr

  • Educational Consultation - $185/hr

Non-Direct time is also subject to our clinic rates - $200/hr (therapist)/$250/hr (psychologist). This includes but is not limited to:

  • Document review: Letter writing

  • Form applications: (tax forms, funding applications)

  • Email communication: accrued in 30min increments

  • Consultation meetings with schools, professionals, and others

  • Phone call communication between sessions

I don’t live in Ottawa, can I still access services at Child In Mind?

Yes! We offer virtual services to children, youth and families across Ontario.

I share custody with my child’s other guardian, do I require their consent?

Yes, Child In Mind will require all guardians consent to provide services to a minor under the age of 16yrs, unless there is a court order indicating otherwise. Our practice is to involve all guardians to the extent possible and are happy to work with parents to reach an agreement regarding services for their child.
