Jovette Carey (she/her) is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). She is completing an internship on behalf of the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program with Yorkville University under the supervision of Dr. Matheson.
For the last 14 years, she worked as a yoga, meditation, and wellness educator with children, youth, and adults. Her approach is best described as compassionate, warm, playful, and non-judgemental. Creating a safe therapeutic relationship is her priority.
While Jovette is holistically minded and integrates different therapeutic approaches tailored to the client, she works primarily from an attachment framework. Her philosophy is that we are all hardwired to attach to a primary caregiver from birth to meet our basic physical and emotional needs. Early attachment relationships are vital to a person’s healthy functioning and development and are emphasized in her work.
She is interested in the intergenerational transmission of attachment styles and emotional neglect. Her work on the association between childhood maltreatment and adult maladaptive coping was recently published in the Alabama Counseling Association (ALCA) Journal.
