Dr. Funamoto’s broad research interests are parent-child attachment, parenting behaviours, father involvement, and child development. Due to her ongoing involvement with the University of Alberta with clinical supervision, guest lecturing, and research, she is an Adjunct Academic Colleague with the Department of Educational Psychology.
Dr. Funamoto primarily completes psychological assessments for children and adolescents. She recently moved from Edmonton, Alberta where she was the clinical lead of a psychological assessment team at a non-profit organization, CASA Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health. This organization provides free services to children and their families who struggle with a wide variety of complex social, emotional, learning, and behavioural difficulties.
The team conducts comprehensive, standardized psychometric assessments to complement the mental health services families were receiving from their care team (e.g., psychiatrist, mental health therapist).
Dr. Funamoto also provides mental health interventions for children and adolescents. She has worked in both school and clinical environments leading or supporting therapeutic groups (e.g., anxiety, girls’ group, social skills), individual therapy (e.g., anxiety, coping strategies, depression, parent support, behaviour challenges), and psychoeducation groups (e.g., attention and learning) to children and their caregivers.
Dr. Funamoto and her husband have a young toddler, Theo, who is charming, active, and bright, descriptions not without bias! She is thrilled to be a part of Matheson Psychology’s growing team!
